Adultery Site Ashley Madison Fined Over Client Data Breach

Adultery website AshleyMadison.com’s owner agreed to pay a steeply discounted $1.65 million settlement to resolve state and federal probes into a 2015 hack that exposed personal data of 37 million users of the site, whose slogan was “Life is Short. Have an Affair.” The company, which changed its name to Ruby Corp. from Avid Life Media Inc. after the breach, agreed to a $17.5 million penalty to resolve the multistate investigation, New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a statement. The amount was reduced by about 90 percent due to an "inability to pay," and the rest was suspended. “Reckless disregard for data security will not be tolerated,” Schneiderman, who joined with 12 other U.S. states and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to announce the settlement. Hackers dumped almost 10 gigabytes of data on the Internet, providing information on previously anonymous users, including e-mail addresses, names and details of sexual preferences and fantasies, authorities said. As many as 652,627 New York residents were members of Ashley Madison at the time of the security breach. Dating Venue Toronto-based Ruby, which now bills Ashley Madison simply as an online-dating site, has been cooperating with the FTC for more than a year, according to a statement by Rob Segal, the company’s chief executive officer since July. “Today’s settlement closes an important chapter on the company’s past and reinforces our commitment to operating with integrity,” Segal said in the statement. Company spokeswoman Debra Quinn declined to comment on why the company can’t afford to pay the full settlement, despite reporting more users than it had at the time of the breach. The multistate probe uncovered lax data-security practices at the company, including a failure to maintain its information-security policies or to use so-called multi-factor authentication to secure remote access, according to the statement. "This case represents one of the largest data breaches that the FTC has investigated," Chairwoman Edith Ramirez said in a statement. The investigation revealed Ashley Madison failed to purge the user information of millions of customers who cancelled their memberships, even though many had paid for a premium service that promised their data wouldn’t be stored on the company’s servers, according to the attorney general’s statement. Under the accord, the website operator also agreed to not use fake female profiles, which were often created to entice customers, according to the statement. The data breach revealed those profiles to be bogus and exposed the company’s use of customer photographs for phony profile pictures, it said. "It used portions of the profile photographs of actual users who had not had account activity within the previous year as the photographs in the fake profiles that it created, cropping or hiding users’ faces, but not their bodies," Schneiderman said. The hack led Noel Biderman, the company’s former CEO, to step down , and triggered a probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Royal Canadian Mounted…

Chidinma Okeke Cucumber S*X Scandal Is Getting Dicey: Heads Will Definitely Roll, Now See What DSS Is Currently Working On – Uche Nworah Replies

Ladies and gentlemen, Uche Nworah has just released a blurred contract document which Chidinma Okeke signed with ABS. This is the same document he initially refused to release. What Mr Nworah did say is why the contract was signed after Chidinma won the beauty contest. Meanwhile, I am glad that DSS has stepped in. Chidinma Okeke has been interrogated by DSS. Uche Nworah has also told the DSS all he knows about the mess. Our own Aisha Edward has equally petitioned the DSS. APGA Interactive Forum therefore urges the DSS to do just and prosecute anyone found culpable. Here is what Uche Nworah stated as his position on the scandal. Read below… There is an Igbo saying that the more you repeat a lie, at some point people may begin to believe that it is the truth. On this former Miss Anambra s3x scandal, the management of the Anambra Broadcasting Service had previously released a press statement disassociating the organisation from it. We still stand on that statement. We have also made statements on the matter to the law enforcement authorities. We understand that Miss Chidinma Okeke has also made statements to the law enforcement authorities so we eagerly await their findings. It is however important that I correct certain statements that are being made on this forum and in other fora especially concerning the interview Miss Chidinma Okeke granted the Nation newspaper today. There appears to be an agenda to push falsehood to the public and in so doing malign me and the Anambra Broadcasting Service over a matter that we know nothing about. It appears that our silence over the matter, except the press statement we issued earlier is now being exploited by those who are bent on using the Miss Anambra s3x scandal to settle political scores in Anambra state. It would also appear that Miss Chidinma Okeke has become a pawn in a larger politically motivated conspiracy. The ABS as a socially responsible organisation fulfilled to the letter every part of the contract signed with Miss Chidinma Okeke, former Miss Anambra. This includes paying ALL her prize money of the sum of one million Naira only. This was paid in instalments in line with the contract. An initial sum of N500, 000 was paid to her after she signed her contract and the balance of N500,000 was paid in N50,000 instalments over a 10 month period. She collected her last installment of N50,000 on the 11th of October 2016, the day she handed over the crown to the organisers. We have records of her signing for all the payments. We had to take the measure of inviting the former Miss Anambra to the office on this date as that was the day an anonymous individual had forwarded the videos to myself and some other persons I do not know accusing the former queen of being a l.esb!ian. The person said he was in possession of such similar videos numbering over 10 allegedly showing the former queen in l.esb!ian acts, as well as her friends in the l.esb!ian video performing s3xual acts with men. Details of these WhatsApp messages have been made available to the law enforcement authorities. We took this decision as we did not want the brand to be smeared with such a scandal as contained in Clause 1 of the contract. After the handover of the crown by Miss Chidinma Okeke to the Miss Anambra project executives in the presence of the ABS management in the office of the ABS MD/CEO, I dismissed all the other members of the management with the exception of the ABS lawyer and one of the Miss Anambra project executives. I went on to show Miss Chidinma Okeke the videos I had received that day from the anonymous individual and the messages from the person, I then asked her if she had any knowledge of the video and she said yes. I advised her to go home and confide in her family. I have not seen nor spoken to her since that day as I do not know her whereabouts. Miss Chidinma Okeke was not forced to sign the contract under duress as alleged, rather a certain Nwakonobi Ifeanyi who is married to her sister and acting as her guardian co-signed with her after they had taken the contract home, studied and consulted over it. As a respectable pageant, we have certain rules and regulations guiding participation in the pageant and conduct of the queen during her reign. During her one year reign, we supported Miss Chidinma Okeke the very best way we could including sponsoring her to represent Nigeria in the Miss Intercontinental pageant which held in Frankfurt Germany in December 2015. We sponsored her alongside one of the contestants who represented São Tomé. This was our way of creating opportunities for them and opening doors to international fame and modeling. Though not stated in the contract but we also secured a free unlimited one year business class return tickets to any destination in Nigeria for her and her chaperon from one of our airline sponsors. There is no iota of truth in the allegation that ABS is blackmailing Chidinma Okeke over monies realised at her birthday party. As our reigning queen, we organised a birthday party for her and used the occasion to present to the public her pet project. The event was co-sponsored by her uncle who was also at the event alongside veteran Nollywood actor, Sir Obi Okoli who did not stay till the end. Miss Chidinma Okeke and her uncle can testify that no money was realised at the event as it was not a fund raising. Rather, the guests that spoke encouraged her with words. The Miss Anambra Beauty Pageant platform is indeed a wonderful one. There is nothing wrong with the pageant. We have had winners and participants on the platform who have gone on to do big things in their lives and modeling careers. The pageant is solely private sector funded. The state government does not sponsor the pageant so please do not believe the false story that the Anambra state government spends millions of Naira sponsoring the pageant. If you live in Awka or Anambra state, you will confirm that it is usually a big event which generates a lot of excitement and buzz. As an organisation, the pageant generates entertainment content and some revenue for the ABS. From the audition to the final event itself, the contestants are treated with the highest respect, courtesy and dignity. They sign a document detailing dos and donts and pledge to be of good conduct and behaviour both during camp and during the reign of the eventual winner. In the past, the organisers have had to dismiss some finalists from camp for misconduct, one for giving her number out to a hotel guest where they are camped and another for being rude to fellow contestants and the chaperon. The pageant is judged to the highest standard. The judges are usually former acclaimed national beauty queens and showbiz personalities. The pageant overall is managed by a Pageant Creative Director who is a former Miss Nigeria. We take every care to ensure that we deliver a good show every year. There are no preconditions of appearing in a s3x video to contest in the Miss Anambra pageant. We have had hundreds of contestants on the pageant and they can testify to that. It makes no sense to try to blame the organisers over an act that is as a result of one’s folly and greed. If perhaps the said Miss Chidinma Okeke fell victim to conmen who tricked her into believing that she will win a beauty pageant if she appears in a s3x video, if she goes ahead and participates in the said video and the conmen turn around to blackmail her and extort money from her with the s3x video, how can I or the ABS be blamed for that? Did the other participants and contestants on the show suffer the same fate? Regarding the issue of the Miss Anambra vehicle, in line with clause 10 of the contract, the vehicle is an official car which the organisers reserve the right to withdraw at the end of the queen’s reign. It does appear that the issue of the car is what concerns the former queen the most as statements to the media by her father, and even text messages to me and discussions from people from her camp suggest so but clearly as can be seen from the contract, the ABS acted as per contract signed. It is obvious that those who have been at the forefront pushing this falsehood and allegation that I, Uche Nworah or the ABS has anything to do with this have ulterior motives. In this day and age of social media, it is now easy for anybody to manufacture falsehood and post on social media for the unsuspecting public to read, like and share but in the end truth triumphs. …

Arts, Entertainment, Considered Major Economic Boosters

In the face of the current economic crisis that Nigeria is facing, arts, entertainment and recreation have been said to increase the nation’s GDP by 0.23% in the second quarter of 2016, although lower than the 0.26% contributed in the first quarter of the year. This is according to the National Bureau of Statistics. The movie industry which started merely as a means of expression and entertainment, is said to have employed over two million people in 20 years. This is only a fraction of the benefit that Nigeria enjoys from the entertainment industry. The industry which is generally perceived as a world of glamour and ‘make belief’; only accommodating the good looking as well as the wealthy, has slowly grown to be a massive money machine for key stakeholders and the nation at large. In 2014, Nigeria was considered as the leading economy in Africa, a recognition that was attributed partly to the six billion dollar contribution of Nollywood, music and the telecommunication industries. Asides economic value, the entertainment industry has since been a huge employer of labour as millions of individuals are involved in the technicalities of content production. The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood which is said to churn out over 50 movies on a weekly basis, was considered the second largest film industry globally, with an estimated annual revenue of about 590 million dollars, according to African Movies News. The music as well as comedy industries, have not been left behind either. In 2010, record sales were estimated to about 50 million while at least 550 albums were said to have been released annually as at 2013. Nigeria is said to have held an estimated 1,200 concerts, with a combined annual turn-over of musical shows to the tune of 105 million dollars. The statistics have so far indicated that the industry may hold an answer to the economic recession. More so, with the increased number of content in the movie as well as music industries, it is believed that the industry would contribute more significantly to the nation’s economic status. Speaking on the growth of the entertainment industry, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, said that the government has been trying to create a more enabling environment, in order to ensure more development of the creative industry. “Our aim remains to transit from a mere creative industry to a creative economy so that we can really create more wealth,” he said. …

GRASS TO GRACE: See How Nollywood Actress, Mercy Johnson Narrates How N50, 000 Changed Her Life For Good

Renowned Nollywood actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie, has shared her journey to stardom, as she recalled how N50, 000 once meant the world to her. The mother of three said she ventured into the movie industry after she initially failed her JAMB exams. Mercy made this known in a recently released video autobiography on her youtube channel, REALMJO. “Things weren’t extremely rosy, so I know what it means to be hungry. I know what it means to lack something. And I know what it means to work hard to achieve something. “I agreed to act for free in the ‘Maid’ but after the movie which brought me to limelight, the EP thought I did a great job so he gave me N50, 000. “I held the money like; you will have to kill me to take it away from me. “It meant a lot, it was like a Messiah at that point in cash. “So, there goes my biggest phobia, which is going back to nothing, the fear of going back to my humble beginnings.” …

Why Court Made The Orders: Informing AMCON To Pay Capital Oil And Gas 26bn Naira.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Asset Management Corporation Of Nigeria (AMCON) to pay Capital Oil and Gas Limited the sum of 26 billion Naira as contained in the consent judgment delivered in 2013. Justice Abdul Kafarati in his judgement held that the court has powers to enforce its judgment or the verdict of any lower court in the country. The trial judge also restrained AMCON from exercising any power over Capital Oil and Gas Limited and its assets and from processing any assignment and transfer among others. Justice Kafarati, who resolved all four issues canvassed by Capital Oil, advised the agency to live up to its statutory responsibility of reviving the nation’s economy through positive support for businesses to thrive. A Federal High Court in Lagos had on May 6 struck out a suit commenced by AMCON against Capital Oil and Gas Industries on the grounds that the suit was premature. AMCOM sought to circumvent existing suits in different courts on issues relating to the alleged indebtedness of Capital Oil and Gas which was currently under dispute.…

Can Attacks On Oil Facilities Be The Cause Of This Nigeria Recession? Its Unbelievable..

The recession was a result of the drop in the price of crude oil and the attacks on the nation’s oil facilities by some militant groups in the Niger Delta region. Some militants under the umbrella of the Niger Delta Avengers have claimed responsibility for most of the attacks which have drawn the attention of the Nigerian Government and some other foreign governments. Disturbed by the spate of the militants’ activities, the Nigerian Army launched a special team code named “Operation Crocodile Smile”, as the government agreed to dialogue with the militants after a ceasefire agreement from both sides. In spite of the development, both military and militants have continued to point accusing fingers, alleging a breach of agreements as the military said it would not hesitate to repel militants’ attack in the region.…

W.H.O:HIV/AIDS Cure Finally Found, Doctors Confirm Say Condom Era Is Over:

Previously, it was gathered that religion was used as a tool to propagate on the deadly disease called HIV/AIDS but following the recent development, it seems over. Doctors in Barcelona, Spain believe they have found the cure to HIV – the AIDS-causing virus that affects the lives of more than 34 million people worldwide, according to WHO. By using blood transplants from the umbilical cords of individuals with a genetic resistance to HIV, Spanish medical professionals believe they can treat the virus, having proven the procedure successful with one patient. A 37-year-old man from Barcelona, who had been infected with the HIV virus in 2009, was cured of the condition after receiving a transplant of blood. While unfortunately the man later died from cancer just three years later, having developed lymphoma, the Spanish medical team is still hugely encouraged by what it considers to be a breakthrough in the fight against HIV and related conditions, according to the Spanish news source El Mundo. Doctors in Barcelona initially attempted the technique using the precedent of Timothy Brown, an HIV patient who developed leukemia before receiving experimental treatment in Berlin, the Spanish news site The Local reported. Brown was given bone marrow from a donor who carried the resistance mutation from HIV. After the cancer treatment, the HIV virus had also disappeared. According to The Local, the CCR5 Delta 35 mutation affects a protein in white blood cells and provides an estimated one percent of the human population with high resistance to infection from HIV. Spanish doctors attempted to treat the lymphoma of the so-called “Barcelona patient” with chemotherapy and an auto-transplant of the cells, but were unable to find him a suitable bone marrow. “We suggested a transplant of blood from an umbilical cord but from someone who had the mutation because we knew from ‘the Berlin patient’ that as well as [ending] the cancer, we could also eradicate HIV,” Rafael Duarte, the director of the Haematopoietic Transplant Programme at the Catalan Oncology Institute in Barcelona, told The Local. Prior to the transplant, a patient’s blood cells are destroyed with chemotherapy before they are replaced with new cells, incorporating the mutation which means the HIV virus can no longer attach itself to them. For the Barcelona patient, stem cells from another donor were used in order to accelerate the regeneration process. Eleven days after the transplant, the patient in Barcelona experienced recovery. Three months later, it was found that he was clear of the HIV virus. Despite the unfortunate death of the patient from cancer, the procedure has led to the development of an ambitious project that is backed by Spain’s National Transplant Organization. October 2016 will mark the world’s first clinical trials of umbilical cord transplants for HIV patients with blood cancers. Javier Martinez, a virologist from the research foundation Irsicaixa, stressed that the process is primarily designed to assist HIV patients suffering from cancer, but “this therapy does allow us to speculate about a cure for HIV,” he added.…

What An Exceptional Leaders Never but Always Do This Instead Read Carefully..

Your business is a reflection of yourself--it's time to take self-development seriously. The best leaders have a unique opportunity to create an environment that reflects their own values while maximizing individual strengths. Unfortunately, many individuals in leadership positions lack the self-awareness necessary to become exceptional at inspiring others. If you want to take the next step in your leadership development, avoid these 20 mistakes: 1. Speaking like a politician instead of a person. Between Trump, Clinton, and congress, we have enough masquerades to last until 2020. What employees crave is someone who's authentic, genuine, and not afraid to answer questions with honesty and transparency. 2. Putting people on the spot in front of others to make them feel embarrassed. Calling someone out in front of their peers leads to isolation and shame, quickly creating a dynamic of secretes instead of open communication. 3. Using titles or experience to justify your behaviors instead of logic. The best way to convey your values and philosophy to your company is explaining your thought processes behind important decisions. Hiding behind your resume is an appeal to authority that builds resentment and divides team members. 4. Seeking arguments with coworkers you know you'll win. We get it--you know more than the rest of us, there's no need to go the extra mile--it only builds resentment. 5. Allowing negativity in your personal life to infiltrate the workplace. When you have a bad weekend and then bring that negative energy into the workplace it decreases productivity and makes everyone feel on edge. 6. Blaming others instead of taking ownership and responsibility. The best leaders hold themselves accountable because it models the ability to own up to your mistakes and shows that no one is except from personal and collective responsibility. 7. Telling people to do something that you haven't done. When you haven't experienced something, it's important that you value the opinions of people who have. 8. Displacing your frustration onto employees rather than its source. Having control over the workplace but not your personal life leads to the re-creation of family-like chaos in a corporate environment, which is bad for business and emotional wellbeing. 9. Enforcing policies without explaining the reason for their implementation. Stop wasting opportunities to get people on the same page. No one wants to do something that feels arbitrary and without reason. 10. Reducing employee satisfaction to a dollar value instead of prioritizing workplace cohesion. Give back to your employees instead of pinching them for every dollar and cent. When you make employees feel valued and aligned with your core values, they want to work for you instead of the competition. 11. Not being approachable. Whether it's the cleaning staff or the investors, leaders need to be open and actively seeking out engagement with others. 12. Not taking action to solve and resolve employee complaints. When you ask for feedback and then do nothing about it, you're communicating that people's opinions don't matter. Even something as simple as showing the top complaints and your plan to address it is sometimes enough validation to buy time and respect. 13. Excessively emphasizing the company's bright future to minimize current suffering. Stop dangling the carrot and start acknowledging what's happening right now. 14. Not truly listening to their employees. Great leaders listen and value the opinions of their employees. 15. Shaming workers for lacking your same level of dedication to work. Expecting other people to care as much about their work as you do is setting yourself up for frustration. 16. Being out of touch with the experiences of entry level workers. When you're driving a car, you need to know what's happening on the ground so you can avoid potholes. 17. Saying one thing and then doing another. If you want your words to be valued, you need to increase not decrease your integrity. 18. Failing to acknowledge and reward above-and-beyond performance. When you go above and beyond acknowledging and appreciating good performance, it becomes a great recruiting tool and motivates current employees to work harder. 19. Keeping underperforming friends and family in the business. Establish a meritocracy. If your friends and family don't keep up, you can't reward them without undermining everyone else. 20. Being rude and inconsiderate in digital communications. Be thoughtful with your words--they set the precedent for everyone else. Exceptional leaders do what they say, practice what they preach, and lead by example. They immerse themselves in self development practices because they know that they must embody the values they wish to instill in others. They behave according to their values, treat all people with warmth and respect, encourage conversation, and they recognize their own limitations. If you want to be the best leader you can become and have the most significant impact on your company, then you need to work on refining yourself--because your business is a reflection of yourself.…

World Teachers Day In Nigeria?: Where is the Nigerian teacher globally? By Dayo Adesulu

AS Nigerian teachers join their counterparts all over the world to celebrate the World Teachers’ Day, stakeholders in the teaching profession have lamented the precarious state of Nigerian teachers in the comity of teachers globally. The 2016 World Teachers’ Day with the theme -‘Valuing Teachers, Improving their Status’ was described by teachers as most apt for the Nigerian where our teachers deserved to be celebrated for being the pivot of socio-economic development. Nigerian teachers who spoke to IDCC decried their poor teaching conditions, stressing that teachers are not so treated with disdain globally. According to them, whereas the Nigerian teachers are still using blackboards and chalks for teaching in the 21st century, their counterparts in other countries are using whiteboards and markers, noting that many countries of the world have even gone beyond the use of whiteboard to interactive classroom system, coupled with teaching aids. While teachers in many countries of the world are well remunerated, they maintained that teachers in Nigeria were not only poorly paid, but many were being owed several months of unpaid salaries. Overloaded classrooms Comparing teachers in Nigeria to their counterparts globally, they described in Nigeria working conditions as appalling, adding that the average Nigerian teachers, apart from few private schools, were working under poor conditions of service. According to Vanguard investigations, many teachers, especially in public schools are compelled to work in overloaded classrooms of 80 to 100 pupils without electricity, and comfortable office chairs and tables.  They argued that the manner in which the federal and state governments handled teachers makes the society to hold teachers and the teaching profession in low esteem. “How many teachers in Nigeria are computer literate and what is the government doing to upgrade teachers’ knowledge in computer literacy,” they quarried. Making allusion to what a typical teacher and the teaching profession were like in those days, stakeholders noted that in the good old days, teachers were highly regarded in the society as they exerted great influence and authority on the people and were subsequently ranked second in command after the traditional chiefs. “That informed the reason many teachers in those days were given free accommodation and scholarships for further studies,” they said. They pointed out that in those days, a student would rather prefer his mother beats him when he commits an offence at home, than she reported him to his class teacher, the punishment and the shame at the assembly ground could be better imagined. The question begging for an answer is: Where did we begin to get it wrong and how did our teachers suddenly lose their prestige? In his reaction, the Provost of Michael Otedola Primary College of Education (MOCPED), Professor Olu Akeusola, said that the day we abrogated Grade II teachers colleges in Nigeria was the time we killed teachers education and subsequently education. Akeusola who maintained that the standard of education was not falling, but the quality, explained that what was instrumental to a very good foundation in the past, was our being able to develop teacher education. He noted that if teacher education was developed, it would create a methodology of passing the information to the younger generation adding, “unfortunately, we have destroyed that solid pillar foundation of teacher education. Teachers can only be what the society or government wants them to be. In those days, teachers were highly respected and compensated. Since the colonial teachers brought education, we were able to discover the purpose of education. But now, we cannot maintain the purpose. In those days, teachers were second in command to the colonial masters because they taught teachers to become interpreters in palaces. “What we had in the past was a very good and solid teacher education. That was the time we were having Grade III, Grade II, Grade I and the like. By then, these teachers that were more co-ordinated with methodology were able to use their knowledge to teach the pupils. The students that were well trained at the primary and secondary levels now went to the university. Any student who does not have a good primary and secondary foundation cannot be lectured at all in the university. Let us bring back Grade II as senior secondary school education so that anybody that finishes will either go to college of education or university. We must train our teachers right away from secondary school level. If not, we will keep on going backward.” On the way forward, he said: “Government should spend 25% of our budget on education. Education is that sector that will develop every other sector. If education is messed up, the entire sectors of the economy will be messed up. If education is developed, it will develop economy, technology and every other thing. The federal government should see to the development of education in Nigeria.’’ On his part, former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Professor Peter Okebukola, said that if we assert that teachers make up the fulcrum of the education lever, the conclusion is that the story of Nigeria’s development over the last 56 years is largely the story of its teachers. According to him, if we take quality teachers out of our development equation, Nigeria will be in the backwaters of nations in the world. “Here we are today, boasting of being the second largest economy in Africa and among the leading countries in the region on many development indicators. To all Nigerian teachers past and present, we should say “all hail”, the teachers, he said. Sadly, he observed that our teachers were hardly valued, stressing that in more than half of the states of the federation, teachers were being owed salaries running to several months. He said: “So, they will mark the 2016 World Teachers’ Day on empty stomachs unable to pay school fees of their children as schools resume; and unable to wear decent clothes and live in homes with minimal comfort. He, however, urged government in Nigeria at all levels to pay more attention to the plight of teachers in terms of improving their welfare. At the federal level, he pointed out that the Buhari administration is doing its best in the circumstance, adding that State governments are most guilty in terms of not giving teachers their due. Status of teachers His words: “Improving the status of teachers is beyond money. It includes building their capacities to ensure they deliver better quality education. Today, almost half of the teachers in Nigeria have severe quality deficiencies. Government at all levels must take steps to improve the quality of teachers through better pre-service and in-service training. Agencies concerned with registration of teachers and regulating their training should evolve more vibrant methodologies for delivering on their mandate. Here we are looking at Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), National Universities Commission (NUC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Many of our teachers are sub-standard and we need to tighten quality assurance. We need to tool teachers better in a fast-evolving ICT world to enable them take full advantage of ICT to deliver the curriculum. We need to better resource our schools so that Nigerian teachers will have more clement environment with which to work. Mr. Goke Gbadebo, a teacher at New Christfield College, Ikorodu said that he is proud being a teacher adding that whenever he imparts knowledge to students, he feels fulfilled. He, however, frowned at the attitude of the government and the society, lamenting that teachers were not treated with the respect they deserve. ‘’Government and the society must place value on the teachers, commend and celebrate them. Teachers should be well remunerated and made happy because if they are not happy, they will not be able to give their best.’’ Challenge of recession For Mr. Paul Oguchi, a teacher at Dampress Schools, Lagos, salaries of teachers should be reviewed so as to meet up with the challenge of recession in the country. He said though he was not happy being a teacher, he was, however, glad that he was imparting knowledge. On her part, Mrs. Yetunde Oresanya, a teacher at Okota Junior High School, Lagos applauded Governor Ambode for prompt payment of teachers’ salaries in the State. She said: “Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is trying for us. On 22nd of every month our salaries are paid, making us to be happy. For me, if it is possible, Ambode should continue till the next 12 years because of the prompt payment of our salaries.” Oresanya, however urged the government to replace retired teachers with new ones for better productivity. Asked, how many students in her class, she said, 40.…

Recession Saga As Lamentation Book Was Opened Saying Bogus Salaries, Allowances of Principal Officers Affecting Us As Nigerians The Most (Please Read Carefully)

Bauchi – Economic and finnancial experts, mostly dons and industrialists nationwide have given the Federal Government some clues, basically on creativity, diversification of economy and human development to quickly recover from the current economic recession in Nigeria. Nigeria recently slipped into its first recession after more than two decades. According to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Africa’s largest economy has witnessed a 2.06 per cent decline in the second quarter of 2016 after the 0.36 per cent fall in the first quarter. The two consecutive quarters of deteriorating growth have clearly pointed at a recession. The situation is largely due to the persistently low crude oil prices. Crude oil sales account for 70 per cent of government income and 90 per cent of export earnings. Experts say Nigeria has been dealt a heavy blow by the collapse of oil prices from the highs of about 112 dollars a barrel in 2014 to less than 50 dollars at present. A cross section of the experts, mostly economists in the universities and other stakeholders, hold the views that the ways forward for Nigeria include reducing emphasis on oil and re-directing attention to the agriculture and solid minerals sector to retool the economic. In the North Eastern part of the country, respondents in Gombe, Adamawa, Yobe, Jigawa and Bauchi states, said that government needed to match its words with actions to quickly get Nigeria out of the doldrums Mr Malik Daniel, Deputy President of Adamawa Chambers of Commerce, Mines and Agriculture, said a major step out of it was to diversify the economy by tapping other abundant mineral resources in the country. He urged government to pay more attention to agriculture by supporting rural farmers with soft loan through the Anchor Borrowers Scheme, advising that similar gesture be extended to small scale miners and other business entrepreneurs to ginger the economy. But a cleric in Yola, Malam Abubakar Ibrahim, called for fear of God and patriotism in tackling the recession. “Nigerians need to change; we must have fear of God by being honest, patriotic and be ready to make sacrifice for the country. Alhaji Safiyanu Sulaiman, the Managing Director of Dutse Micro-Finance Bank (DMFB) in Jigawa, urged the Federal Government to provide palliatives to cushion the effect of the economic hardship. Dr. Yusuf Bachama of the Economics Department, Gombe State University (GSU), said there was the need for the economy to move away from being import-dependent and become exporter of products. “The recession being experienced is not a new thing to an economy that solely depends on oil; it is quite natural that once the price of crude goes down, recession sets in. Halilu Usman, a graduate of Business Administration and Bureau-de-Change operator in Yobe, said with its large population, Nigeria needed viable market for the economy to thrive. “The country is succeeding in the war against corruption; we now have a leader with a committed political will to promote good policies to develop the economy,” he said. Abdullahi Shehu, former General Secretary, National Union of Bank, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) in Bauchi State, called for the suspension of some portions of the Nigerian constitution to enable the president to use emergency powers in tackling the problem.  “United States and Japan had recession some time ago but because they love their country, a law was approved and implemented, making them to get out of the problem quickly,” he said. Alhaji Adamu Jatau, Zonal Coordinator, Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Reseach, Bauchi, said a short term plan was for the government to expand on taxable items and for the people to pay such taxes. A long term solution is for the government to revamp all ailing industries to commence production of local goods and place restriction on importation Experts in South East proffer solutions to economic recession In the South East, experts want the government to cut down on allowances of officers by 80 per cent and channel the fund to agriculture to reboot the economy. They also called for the removal of multiple taxation and provision of stable electricity to enable cottage industries to thrive. The Head of the Department of Economics at the Imo State University, Prof. Zik Anolu, said that at a critical period such as now, allowances should be cut to cushion the effect of the recession. Anolu said though government had earlier cut down some allowances and placed embargo on frivolous travels, the percentage was insignificant to compare with the current situation. “What is affecting the nation most is the bogus salaries and allowances paid to principal officers,’’ he said. He also advocated for a strengthened mechanised farming to help boost the economy. The HOD, however, faulted the government for placing embargo on importation of certain goods which had caused more problems than good to the economy. “When a country places embargo on goods that they don’t produce, it will lead to high level of smuggling of goods, which has serious effect on the price tags. He said government should encourage investors to establish manufacturing industries and for the country to harness its raw materials. The Economic Adviser to Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Mr Ikechukwu Njoku, said the government should first address the problem of oil vandalism. He also advised government to open sectors such as the Nigerian Railway as a key sector in the country. “Nigerians are feeling the impact of the recession more due to high cost of transportation as a result of fuel increase. “When we make the railway service permanently functional, it will ease the difficulties of transportation thereby reducing the pressure on the people”, he said. Another business expert in Imo, Dr. Anayo Ikemba, said government should kill all form of bottlenecks that hindered discoveries of oil. He said there were high deposits of crude oil in some areas, but wondered why government had not started exploring them. From Enugu, university teachers and economists called for a bi-directional to overcome the recession. Prof. Cletus said “we need fiscal and monetary policies that would stimulate foreign investment and job creation to take care of the millions of youths out of job”. Contributing, Dr Nathaniel Urama, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria Nsukka, said the immediate solution was a dialogue with the Niger Delta militants. He said that this would enable the Federal Government to get immediate fund to plan ahead for the future. The Executive Director, Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, Dr Ifediora Amobi, noted that Nigerians must do away with the attitude of focusing on stomach or wasteful spending. According to him, what is needed now is productivity and cutting of all financial wastage; adding that an individual having financial scale of preference is important today. “Today, China is out of recession and has the highest number and base of cottage or family mini-industries and ventures. Rev. Fr. Innocent Ekeagwu, a lecturer of Economics, Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia, suggested the injection of funds into the industrial and manufacturing sectors of the economy. According to him, the measure will act as a tonic to the economy. He said that for the nation to achieve economic greatness, government needed to borrow to fund the real and critical sectors of the economy and make them productive. A legal practitioner, Mr Suleiman Ukandu, advised the government to give incentives, including tax holiday and favourable import conditions, to manufacturers and industrialists in the country. “For agriculture to play the critical role of saving the country out of the current economic malady, government needs to invest in mechanisation,” he said. The President, Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (OCCIMA), Dr Uche Akpakama wants the Federal Government to revive the Industries as a sustainable measure to take the country’s economy out of the recession. He said the interest rate of 14 per cent at interbank rate was high and not realistic to help the country out of recession because it could not support investment in the real sector. “How can you grow an economy out of recession when you have 14 per cent at the interbank rate. “It cannot work, wouldn’t you set up industries, wouldn’t you get this running, at what interest rate will get that done, and the private sector employs most Nigeria and the industries carry a lot of weight on that employment. Dr Tagbo Maduagwu, an economist, said that the solution might not necessarily be increasing workers’ pay but ensuring that workers were paid. He said that increasing salaries was usually accompanied by price upheaval (inflation) which should be put in check. “When the firms are operating, they would earn profit and expand capacity; this would create manpower demand and employment,’’ he said. From Ebonyi, stakeholders want the Federal Government to inject the funds recovered from public officers into the economy. They said the measure would check the current economic recession and cushion the hardship on Nigerians. Dr Onyeka Okwara, a don, noted that Nigerians now realised that the economy needed to be injected with funds to check the recession. South West states and Kwara, that experts opined that the nation’s production capacity was totally externally dependent, putting pressure on available foreign exchange. Eminent academic, Prof. Akin Mabogunje, said that there was clearly a glaring need for government and all stakeholders to focus on policy development and articulation. He said that the was need to look into the seeming dissonance in policies to stimulate the growth and expansion of the real economy. Mabogunje said such could be done through a low interest rate policy and the prevailing Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) initiatives to promote price stability and curb inflation Prof. Bola Okuneye, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Agric Economics at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, suggested that the level of production must be greatly increased for Nigeria to quit recession. “Our major problem is that we are consuming more than we are producing, so we must encourage production. “When production is improved, then we need to ensure that people are really assisted in participating in consumption.’’ Mr Adewale Raji, the Group Managing Director of Odu’a Investment Limited, said in Ibadan that “we cannot afford to feed from overseas in terms of what we eat, wear and use. I think improving local availability, quality, standards and patronage are ways through which our demand for foreign exchange will reduce”. Dr Tunji Olaopa, the Executive Vice-Chairman, Ibadan School of Government and Public Policy, said that the nation needed to reflect its “ Made in Nigeria’’ campaign with the fundamental elements of its development plans. A university lecturer, Dr Tolani Hassan, advised the Federal Government to reflate the economy, stabilise the oil sector and create employment opportunities to reverse the recession. Hassan, a lecturer in Economics at the College of Management and Social Sciences, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijebu-Odeo, Ogun, urged government to increase spending on capital projects to stimulate the ailing economy. Hassan urged President Muhammadu Buhari to engage more economic managers, including seasoned economists, to chart viable economic pathways for the nation. Dr Samuel Nzekwe, a former President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), advised the Federal Government to invest massively in infrastructure to stimulate the economy. “Enabling environment in terms of stable power supply, good roads, macroeconomic stability and strong legal frameworks are vital to attracting foreign investors and getting out of the current recession.” he said. Mr Olusola Bankole, the Chairman, Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation, called for increased collaboration between government and the private sector. Government, he said, should stop being a “monopolist provider of infrastructure and should seek to work more closely with credible partners to bridge the infrastructure gap and unlock Nigeria’s potential’’. Dr Titus Okunronmu, a former Director in the Budgetary Department, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), warned against the sale of the country’s assets. Another don, Dr Michael Oke, said that drastic reduction in government expenses would be a practical way out of the current recession. Oke noted that the reduction should be on consumption and public office holders’ allowances which had major impact on personal expenditure of public office holders rather than public interest. He applauded government’s decision to source for loan from the World Bank, China’s Exim Bank and Japan International Cooperation Agency to tackle the recession. “Our foreign reserve as of today is less than 30 billion dollars to a population of over 170 million. “We need to invest massively in locally produced goods, especially in the area of agriculture for us as a nation to come out from this recession,” he said. The lawmaker added that promoting locally produced goods would also help the government and the private sector in creating jobs for youths in the country. A former consultant to the Federal Government on MDGs, Mr Tosin Yusuf , said there was need to overhaul the whole fiscal policy of the government and make it “home-grown’’. According to him, the western economic theory of forces of demand and supply as a sole determinant of price mechanism should be jettisoned for practical economic reality. Yusuf said fiscal policy of the government should first take care of the immediate needs of the citizenry as a result of high poverty rate and boost the economy internally.  “One of the proactive measures against the present economic recession in Nigeria is to internalise our fiscal policy and boost the economy with home-grown logics. In the same vein, A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Fountain University, Osogbo, Dr Goke Ilori , called for the thorough deregulation of certain sectors to facilitate efficiency and effectiveness. Ilori, said certain sectors of the economy like the aviation, maritime and oil sectors should be deregulated to reduce financial burden on the government and ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The Head of Economics Department, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Philip Olomola, said government should sell some of the unproductive national assets to stimulate the economy. A professor of Economics, Gholahan AbdulGafar, called for more improvement in export of commodities as a way out of the recession. “Naira will continue to crash until export improves and leakages are blocked in Nigeria,’’ the economist said. Chief Samuel Oni, a retired financial expert with Central Bank of Nigeria, shared the same view. “The high level of political interference had been a major problem, in spite of the numerous gifted economic experts,” he said. “The grassroots, especially the towns and communities with their economic and tourism potentials, were always at the receiving end of government’s socio-economic development plans,” he said. Also, Dr Joseph Falaye of the Finance and Account Department of Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara, urged government to prioritise entrepreneurship development to solve the nation’s economic challenges. He said the appointment into the headship of the nation’s financial institutions like the CBN should be based on merit. “This is the body that drives the nation’s economy and such appointment should be based on competence and expertise devoid of political influence to move the economic forward. “There is the need for proper and adequate coordination between the major economic policy makers to achieve the desired success,” he said. A legal luminary, Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), suggested a return to an agric-based economy, with a bias for promotion for commercial farming. “For Nigeria to overcome the present economic problems, we must add business to agriculture A don, Prof. Chris Taiwo, also advised that the same approach would revive the economy. “Enough of all the big retail chains carrying 95 per cent foreign agriculture-based products; let us give them the benefit of stocking our well processed and packaged products,’’ he said. Chief Kolade Oyewole, the Chairman of Ekiti Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mining and Agriculture, shared the same view but emphasised the need for massive industrialisation through support to small and medium enterprises. However, economists in the North Central states, including Plateau, say creativity among industrialists and experts is needed to take the nation out of the woods. Some of them, who spoke with NAN in Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger and Taraba, called for more investments in mechanised farming, deeper and practical interest in the exploration of the abundant mineral resources to create jobs, feed the nation and facilitate exports. Dr Sylvanus Ade, an economist and university teacher, said the current challenges should be seen as “a positive development”. “Our leaders should minimise the waste, plough all holes usually exploited to cheat the system and invest the resources into farming and mechanised exploration of the massive mineral resources in states like Plateau, Nasarawa and Kogi. Mrs Gina Gabriel, a large scale potatoes farmer and an official of the All Farmers Association, advised leaders to pay more attention to more farming activities and quality seeds with better yields and additional value. From Nasarawa State, economists and experts appealed to the three tiers of government to give priority attention to agriculture as a way of boosting the nation’s economy and pulling it out of recession. Two of such experts, Alhaji Yakubu Hauwa, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Mr Sunday Malkus, an economist, said “it was very wrong for Nigeria to heavily depend on a monolithic source of income Dr Jessy Asumate, the Taraba Commissioner of Finance, said the state alone could feed the nation if adequate attention was paid to agriculture. Similarly, financia experts in Kogi, including Dr Hussein Oju, said Nigeria should immediately start exportation of natural products, either semi processed or raw materials. The expert urged the government and the people to look inward and be creative and innovative in their thinking. “For instance, Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Company can produce numerous useful metallic products which we currently import daily from China, Korea and so on. Oju, therefore, advised government to create an industrial-based channel where anyone, who has creative ideas, could come and be financed to start projects. “The Federal Government should, as a matter of urgency, channel funds towards promoting industrialisation and agriculture, and not selling of national assets.” Dr Femi Adebayo, a lecturer at Federal University of Lokoja, said that government should invest more funds into the country’s educational structure to produce independent and productive graduates. Meanwhile, Mr Peter Chieshe, an industrialist and President, Newland Group, has blamed the economic recession on the rise of Nigerian billionaires who had no business establishments. Chieshe, who has diversified interests in the agricultural value chain, said growing number of Nigerian billionaires without a single productive business was responsible for the current recession. According to him, lack of productive businesses in any country ultimately leads to economic recession. He noted that economic development would not happen by chance but through smart policy measures pursued over a sustainable period by committed leadership. “Nigeria must undergo structural economic transformation from traditional agriculture toward an industrial economy which will begin with light manufacturing,” he said. A cross section of stakeholders advised the states and the federal governments on the necessity of retooling the economy to overcome the recession. …

Buhari, Jonathan, Jega meet in Abuja tomorrow By Soni Daniel, Northern Region Editor

Perhaps for the first time, President Muhammadu Buhari and the immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Attahiru Jega, will meet under one roof after the election midwife by Jega. The point of convergence of the trio will be the annual Conference and Awards Ceremony of LEADERSHIP, scheduled to hold on Thursday October 6, 2016, at the Abuja Transcorp Hilton Hotel by 10am. The three important men, whose actions have shaped the Nigerian political scene, according to a statement from the newspaper, have already confirmed their participation in the annual awards event. This year’s event is significant as it will bring together a serving and two former presidents, governors, legislators, members of the diplomatic corps and elder statesmen to discuss the theme: ‘Democracy, Political Transition and the Challenge of Leadership in Africa.’ The keynote address will be delivered by the Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel. The Group Managing Director, Dr Cletus Akwaya, in a statement yesterday, disclosed that former head of state and elder statesman, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, will be chairman of the occasion and is scheduled to present the Persons of The Year awards to the winners. The trio of President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan and immediate past chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, are LEADERSHIP’s Persons of the Year 2015. The Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, will be the royal father of the day at the event, with Senate President, Bukola Saraki as guest of honour while the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello is co-host. In a letter of confirmation signed by his chief of protocol, Sani Musa Daura, the minister said he would personally grace the event. “Their selection followed a critical review of their various contributions to the growth and development of democracy in Nigeria and the peaceful and seamless manner in which the three eminent Nigerians handled the 2015 democratic transition without derailing the country’s democracy to the admiration and commendation of the global democratic community,” the statement pointed out. It further stated that the LEADERSHIP Awards would be honouring President Buhari “for making history by being the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president after three attempts.” In the case of former President Goodluck Jonathan, he would be recognized by the newspaper “for achieving the improbable and for conceding defeat in an election in which he was a contestant – a first for Nigeria.” The former INEC boss is to be honoured “for his courage, doggedness and fairness even in the face of threats to his life in the conduct of the 2015 elections,” to global acclaim. Explaining the criteria employed by the newspaper’s Board of Editors in arriving at the choice of the trio LEADERSHIP said: “It always seems improbable until it is done. We may now take for granted the watershed of the 2015 presidential election but who could have thought it would come to pass? It was far from being so before it was done. When Nigeria held her presidential poll on March 28, 2015 – the fifth since civilian rule was restored in 1999 – it had all the elements of a do-or-die affair. “Providence and three key personalities – Jonathan, Jega and Buhari, turned the tide. They jointly midwifed and protected the people’s mandate and the nation’s democracy from the pernicious machinations of contending interests. In choosing the LEADERSHIP Person of the Year, the Board of Editors could not separate the three central characters who defined 2015. We celebrate these icons of democracy for their role in the nation’s proper initiation to true democracy.” According to the statement, Abdulsalami was chosen to present the Persons of the Year awards because of his role before, during and after the 2015 general elections, particularly in the National Peace Committee, where he, together with other statesmen, got the presidential candidates of the major political parties in the election to sign peace accords. The management noted that Abdulsalami was largely instrumental to the peaceful conduct of the candidates, a role he played using his experience in 1999, when he midwifed the peaceful transition of power from the military regime to a democratically elected government. The board and management of LEADERSHIP stated that the venue for the event was chosen in view of the high-powered guests who would be attending it. The board assured that all logistics had been put in place to accord the event deserving honour and prestige. The Presidency had earlier confirmed that President Muhammudu Buhari will personally attend the event. Presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, confirmed to LEADERSHIP, that the president will grace the occasion as guest of honour. Similarly, LEADERSHIP also confirmed that former president, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, will be attending the annual awards. What Senate Says On IDPs’ Condition, Decried Worrisome As Probes On Presidential Committee Sets In.

The Nigerian Senate has launched an investigation into the utilisation of funds allocated to the Presidential Initiative on North East. The lawmakers said the probe was to ameliorate the conditions of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by the insurgency. President Muhammadu Buhari had inaugurated the Presidential Initiative on the North East in 2015 to address the crisis in the north east. The Senate consequently set up an ad-hoc committee at their first legislative proceedings for the week on Tuesday at the National Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. They expressed concern that funds appropriated to the committee for the displaced persons have been allegedly used to take care of other interests. Subhuman existence The lawmakers also resolved to investigate the purported diversion of grains and other food items from the strategic grains reserve, the National Emergency Management Agency and other sources for the IDPs. They asked the committee to ascertain how much has been released to the committee and how the funds have been utilised from inception till date. The Senate noted that the displaced persons had fled their homes as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency and were living in IDPs’ camps scattered across the northern part of Nigeria. They were sad that despite the fact that the insurgency victims lost their loved ones and all their property, they were contending with horrific living conditions in their various camps. UNICEF has raised concerns of acute malnutrition in children, nursing mothers and pregnant women in the region that has seen over six years of insurgency. While the military decimate Boko Haram militants in the region, the United Nations agency said it had become difficult for aid materials to get to the displaced persons. IDMC maps the flow of IDPs within the North Eastern region. The agency fears that if nutritious food items do not get to the IDPs in the region, 49,000 severely malnourished persons were at the risk of death. A grim situation The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre, a leading source of information and analysis on internal displacement worldwide, in its latest figures stated that about 2,096,000 people have been displaced in armed conflicts along the North East axis of Nigeria. This agrees with figures listed by the Displacement Tracking Matrix of the International Organization for Migration. IOM says between 2014 and 2015, some 200,000 refugees fled across the borders from north-east Nigeria into Cameroon, Niger and Chad, many of whom have since been repatriated and are now among the IDPs in Nigeria.…

How Tinubu Against Oyegun Dispute Takes Another Differentials After Edo Poll, See What Jagaban Could Do.

The quarrel between the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, assumed another dimension on Tuesday. While Odigie-Oyegun took his case to President Muhammadu Buhari, some party youths protested Tinubu’s vituperative call on Odigie Oyegun to resign from office. The crisis in the party blew open recently when Tinubu, in a statement, called for the resignation of the party chairman. The bone of contention was the party’s governorship primary in Ondo State, which produced Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate for the November 26 governorship election in the state. Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, had faulted Odigie-Oyegun for overruling the decision of the party’s National Working Committee that upheld the decision of the Appeal Committee which recommended the cancellation of the primary. The party chairman, who had said he was engrossed in the preparations for the Edo State governorship poll, which was won by APC’s Godwin Obaseki, however, refused to take issue with Tinubu, who he said he held in high esteem. Odigie-Oyegun lost his ward to the Peoples Democratic Party in the governorship election, held on September 28, 2016. On Tuesday, however, Odigie-Oyegun took his grievance to President Muhammadu Buhari. The meeting between the President and the party’s national chairman, who is also a former governor of Edo State, was held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Speaking with State House correspondents at the end of the meeting with Buhari, Odigie-Oyegun said Tinubu was too harsh on him. He, however, said the situation between the two of them could not be described as a rift but a difference of opinion. “There is no rift with Asiwaju. We have difference of opinions, difference of perception and I think that is normal. Yes, I agree that the nature of the (Tinubu’s) statement was a bit harsh,” he said. When asked if he would resign as demanded by Tinubu, the ex-governor said, “The methods of getting rid of a national chairman, if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution. They don’t take place on the pages of newspapers.” He said it was proper for all arms of the party, including the National Executive Council, to meet and the meeting would hold at the appropriate time. Odigie-Oyegun denied being the brains behind the youths who protested against Tinubu at the party’s national headquarters earlier in the day. He, however, promised to investigate the matter. “God forbid (that I sponsor the protest)! Anybody who knows me knows that it is not my style. I am equally shocked and I am going to look into it and find out why and who is behind it. “Do people know how far back our association goes? Do they know that we were in the trenches together in the NADECO days? Why can’t people, who have mutual respect for each other, have different opinions? “All we had was difference of opinions. Yes, it was expressed a bit harshly but that doesn’t remove the basic fact that we have worked together for a very long time,” he added. Odigie-Oyegun said all that transpired in the party’s primary election in Ondo State were contained in the report of the chairman of the primary committee. When asked whether the party would consider a change of mind since the result is generating controversy, the party chairman said, “It is only INEC (the Independent national Electoral Commission) that can make a U-turn on the Ondo primary.” Odigie-Oyegun described the recent governorship election in Edo State won by the party’s candidate, Godwin Obaseki, as a referendum on the performance of Governor Adam Oshiomhole and on the quality of the party’s candidate. Earlier on Tuesday, a group of youths stormed the APC National Secretariat to protest what they claim was Tinubu’s overbearing influence on party’s affairs. The party’s youths, who came under the aegis of the APC Democratic Youth Frontiers, held several banners with anti-Tinubu posters. Some of them read, ‘We are united in APC; Tinubu can’t separate us’; ‘Tinubu is not God’; ‘Greed is not democracy’; ‘No room for an emperor’. Leader of the protesters, Mr. Lookman Salaudeen, said the APC national leader should be told to either toe the party line or be shown the way out. He said, “We call on Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu to either leave the APC, (or) curtail his greed (and) toe the line and exhibit the kind of loyalty needed for party cohesion whether from ordinary members or national leaders. “Nigeria is bigger than Lagos State, where you control affairs like a god; whose words are sacred and must be obeyed at all times.” The group leader said he and members of the group were compelled to stage the protest when it became apparent that attacks on Buhari’s appointees and other party leaders were coming from within. Salaudeen added, “We had initially thought this was the handiwork of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, who wanted to continue with the unjustified attacks on the administration of Mr. President. “We are unusually perplexed that our leader, who parades himself as the national leader of our great party, the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, is the one now whistle-blowing against the same party he claimed to have brought into prominence. “Had any other member of the party done something like this, it would have been classified as an anti-party activity; it remains the same anti-party act, an offence from whatever perspective it is considered. “He is apparently not seeing reason as he again launched an attack on our national chairman, Chief John (Odigie-) Oyegun, whom he asked to resign, the same way his proxies have been demanding the resignation of the appointees of Mr. President. “He did this without any thought on how the call on the national chairman to resign would affect our party in the Edo State governorship election that was taking place just hours away from when he made that error of poor judgment.” When contacted, Tinubu’s spokesman, Mr. Tunde Rahman, promised to get back to The PUNCH. His response was still being awaited as of the time of filing this report. Also, a pro-APC group, ‘APC Disciples in Edo’, has warned against plots by some leaders of the party to force Odigie-Oyegun out of office by all means. The group, in a statement by its leader, Chief Francis Inegbeniki, on Tuesday, said no amount of conspiracy would remove the national chairman. It stated that Oyegun had not committed any offence warranting such calls for his resignation when it was so evident that he had delivered on his mandate as results of different elections held under him had testified. It added, “it is unfortunate that Chief Bola Tinubu, our National leader, whom we all respect so much and Timi Frank to have asked Oyegun to resign from office, as both of them never disclosed any offence that Oyegun committed to warrant his resignation. “Oyegun was not an aspirant in the Ondo APC primary; so, it is unnecessary for anyone to direct his anger to Oyegun. It is not fair to put all the blame on the head of Oyegun.”…

The Fears Of Massive Net Attacks As Codes Are Shared Online—BBC News

Computer code used to mount one of the biggest web attacks ever seen has been released online. Security experts fear the release will prompt more massive attacks that knock sites offline by swamping them with data. The attack tool seeks out smart devices in homes that are weakly protected with easy-to-guess passwords. Net monitoring firms said they had already seen an increase in scans that seek out vulnerable devices. The "Mirai" source code was released on a widely used hacker chat forum over the weekend. The same code is believed to have been used to target security blogger Brian Krebs in late September in an attack that pointed more than 620 gigabits of data every second at his site. Mr Krebs said the release "virtually guaranteed" that the net would soon be flooded with similar incidents as it made it easier to mount such large-scale attacks that abuse access to the consumer gadgets. 'Collateral damage' When Mr Krebs' site was attacked, the amount of data with which it was hit was believed to be the biggest ever seen. However, it was eclipsed later the same month by an attack on French hosting firm OVH, which suffered a malicious datastream that peaked at more than one terabit per second (1,000 gigabits). Research by security firms suggests that both attacks managed to generate so much data by seeking out insecure devices that make up the "internet of things". These are smart devices such as webcams, thermostats and other gadgets that owners can control via the net. Scanners built into the attack code seek out vulnerable devices and enrol them into a network, known as a botnet, that a malicious hacker can then use in what is known as a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack. "There is already a surge in botnet operators attempting to find and exploit IoT devices in order to gain access to uniform and sizable botnet networks," said Dale Drew, chief security officer at net firm Level 3, in an email to Ars Technical. The Mirai botnet and the one used to attack OVH are, between them, believed to control more than 1.2 million vulnerable devices. Post-attack analysis suggests the DDoS deluges aimed at Mr Krebs and OVH used only a fraction of the total number of devices on these botnets. Stephen Gates, chief research intelligence analyst at NSFocus, said the growth of such large IoT botnets could mean chunks of the net get knocked out. In addition, he said, those owning compromised gadgets could see their browsing speeds slow significantly as their home net connection is used to send attack data. "This is all collateral damage caused by a failure of good judgement by using the same factory default passwords on IoT devices in the first place," said Mr Gates in a statement.…

See What Daily Report Have To Say: Google’s Slow Response to Amazon’s Echo is a Warning

Google, for all its financial success and world-beating technology, has a problem: It often lags or is never even a player in markets it could have dominated. As Daisuke Wakabayashi and Nick Wingfield write, that’s been the case with artificially intelligent home appliances. Two years ago, Amazon introduced its Echo device. The Echo is essentially a personal assistant. You can tell it to do things around the house, like play music or control internet-connected lights. The Echo became a surprise hit. And on Tuesday Google will finally release its competitor, called Google Home. That Google is two years behind Amazon with a competing home appliance is puzzling to some people in tech. It has some of the most advanced A.I. technology in the world and an unmatched database of terms thanks to its search engine. Photo So what happened? As some people inside Google tell it, an A.I. home device fell through the cracks, in part because the company was so focused on building this sort of technology into mobile devices that use Google’s Android operating system. There is plenty of time for Google to reel in Amazon. But the early miss on home A.I. tech shows that the company is vulnerable to new ideas — or different ways of thinking about older ideas. It can’t afford to allow that to happen too many times. Silicon Valley veterans sometimes say the tech industry is built on the bones of older companies. Google executives must know this well, since part of the company’s headquarters used to be the home of Silicon Graphics, a computer company that peaked two decades ago. The trick is to never become one of the dinosaurs.…

Breaking News: The 2016 Nobel Prize Award In Physics.

BREAKING NEWS: The 2016 Nobel Prize in Physics is awarded to David Thouless, Duncan Haldane and Michael Kosterlitz ”for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter” They revealed the secrets of exotic matter The 2016 Physics Laureates opened the door on an unknown world where matter can assume strange states. They have used advanced mathematical methods to study unusual phases, or states, of matter, such as superconductors, superfluids or thin magnetic films. Thanks to their pioneering work, the hunt is now on for new and exotic phases of matter. Many people are hopeful of future applications in both materials science and electronics. Kosterlitz and Thouless have studied phenomena that arise in a flat world – on surfaces or inside extremely thin layers that can be considered two-dimensional, compared to the three dimensions (length, width and height) with which reality is usually described. Haldane has also studied matter that forms threads so thin they can be considered one-dimensional. Their discoveries have brought about breakthroughs in the theoretical understanding of matter’s mysteries and created new perspectives on the development of innovative materials.…

Then I woke up here in the hospital.  I do not know if it was a spiritual attack. I cannot explain. I cannot even remember where my phone was. “I do not have any relative here. But I thank God, I survived this mysterious attack— be it spiritual or not. The night before that incident, I did not take any drink. Please, I want to be discharged. I want to go home,” she added. For Ikechukwu Udemba from Ohuhu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, he could not recall what happened. According to him, “this was a place we usually stay to drink and watch football.  So on that Tuesday night, I went there as usual, and called one of my brothers to meet me there. I had not even taken any drink, so there is no room to suspect that I was poisoned through drink. “I went there with the food I bought outside and had neither eaten it nor drank anything in the place before whatever happened occurred.  I was sitting at the bar. “Whatever happened there, I don’t know, except that yesterday, I woke up and found myself here at about this time. Beware And Be warned-Causes Of Kidney Diseases: How To Avert The Menace Of Kidney Disease.

Many young people are increasingly dying as a result of kidney disease and see what you must do to keep safe of the menace: 1. Stop Delaying Going To a Rest Room: Keeping your urine in your bladder for too long is a bad idea. A full bladder can cause bladder damage. The urine that stays in the bladder multiplies bacteria quickly. Once the urine reflux's back to the urether and kidneys, toxic substances can result in kidney infections, then urinary tract infections, and nephritis, plus uremia. When nature calls do it as soon as possible. Eating Too Much Salt: You should eat not more than 5.8 grams of salt daily. Eating Too Much Meat: Too much protein in your diet is harmful for your kidneys. Protein digestion produces ammonia – a toxin that is very destructive to your kidneys. more meat equals more kidney damage. Drinking too much caffeine: Caffeine is a component of many sodas and soft drinks. It raises your blood pressure and your kidneys start suffering. You should cut down the amount of Coke, Pepsi, Red Bull, etc that you drink daily. Not drinking water: Our kidneys should be hydrated properly to perform their functions well. If we don’t drink enough, the toxins can start accumulating in the blood, as there isn’t enough fluid to drain them through kidneys.  Drink more than 10 glasses of water daily. There is an easy way to check if you are drinking enough water: Look at the colour of your urine; the lighter the colour, the better. Late Treatment: Treat all your health problems properly and have your health checked regularly. …

Why State Attorney General Orders Donald Trump Foundation to Cease Raising Money in New York- Reporter

The office of the New York attorney general, Eric T. Schneiderman, has issued a “notice of violation” to Donald J. Trump’s foundation, ordering it to immediately stop soliciting charitable donations in the state. The letter, which was sent on Friday and released on Monday morning by Mr. Schneiderman’s office, said its charities bureau had determined that the Donald J. Trump Foundation had been fund-raising in New York this year when it was not registered to do so under state law. “The Trump Foundation must immediately cease soliciting contributions or engaging in any other fund-raising activities in New York,” wrote James Sheehan, the chief of the charities bureau. Mr. Trump’s foundation has come under increasing scrutiny amid questions about his fulfillment of large charitable pledges and his lack of financial support in recent years. The foundation’s compliance with the rules that govern nonprofit groups has also been a concern. The New York Times reported last month that Mr. Trump’s foundation does not show up on the charity registers in many states, and The Washington Post subsequently reported that the foundation did not have the certification necessary to solicit money in New York. “While we remain very concerned about the political motives behind A. G. Schneiderman’s investigation, the Trump Foundation nevertheless intends to cooperate fully with the investigation,” Hope Hicks, Mr. Trump’s spokeswoman, said in a statement on Monday. “Because this is an ongoing legal matter, the Trump Foundation will not comment further at this time.” Mr. Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, has previously deflected criticism about his charitable giving, saying that he makes contributions personally and that he has been supportive of his foundation. Mr. Schneiderman’s office is investigating Mr. Trump’s foundation to determine if it is in compliance with state laws, including how it spends its money and courts donations. The attorney general’s office was particularly interested in a fund-raiser held by Mr. Trump this year to benefit veterans in lieu of attending a Republican primary debate. The event raised $5.6 million, including some money from wealthy donors, and the Trump Foundation said $1.67 million had come from online donations. The foundation did not break down the sources by state. Over the years, Mr. Trump has donated $5.4 million to his charity, according to the organization’s tax filings. But the last of those contributions was in 2008, and in recent years, the foundation’s coffers have been filled by outside donors — including organizations and people in New York. (The foundation’s most recently available filing was for 2014.) From 2009 to 2014, the foundation raised $4.36 million, with $2.5 million from New Yorkers, records show. State rules require nonprofits raising more than $25,000 a year in New York to register and file audited financial statements and annual financial reports to the attorney general’s charities bureau. In the letter, Mr. Schneiderman’s office provided notice to Mr. Trump’s foundation that it must provide those financial documents within 15 days. It also must file any “delinquent reports” for past years within that time frame. “The failure immediately to discontinue solicitation and to file information and reports” with the charities bureau, Mr. Sheehan said, “shall be deemed a fraud upon the people of the state of New York.” Mr. Schneiderman, a Democrat and a supporter of Mr. Trump’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, has also asserted in a separate pending case that Mr. Trump defrauded students who participated in Trump University, his for-profit educational program. …

Congratulations To All Our German Friends As You Mark Germany Unity Day, 2016 In Grand Style….The write up of the news so far

The news so far are entailed below: The Day of German Unity (German: Tag der Deutschen Einheit ) is the national day of Germany, celebrated on 3 October as a public holiday. It commemorates the anniversary of German reunification in 1990, when the goal of a united Germany that originated in the middle of the 19th century, was fulfilled again. Therefore, the name addresses neither the re-union nor the union, but the unity of Germany. The Day of German Unity on 3 October has been the German national holiday since 1990, when the reunification was formally completed. It is a legal holiday for the Federal Republic of Germany. An alternative choice to commemorate the reunification could have been the day the Berlin Wall came down: 9 November 1989, which coincided with the anniversary of the proclamation of the German Republic in 1918, and the defeat of Hitler's first coup in 1923. However, 9 November was also the anniversary of the first large-scale Nazi-led pogroms against Jews in 1938 ( Kristallnacht ), so the day was considered inappropriate as a national holiday. Therefore, 3 October 1990, the day of the formal reunification, was chosen instead and replaced the "Day of German Unity" on 17 June, the national holiday of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1954. Days of Imperial Germany Before 1871, in the area where the single state of Germany now exists, different kingdoms and principalities existed. After the unification of Germany, and the Founding of the Empire 1871, there was still no common national holiday. The Sedantag was, however, celebrated every year on 2 September, recalling the decisive victory in the Franco-Prussian War on 2 September 1870. After the founding of the Empire in 1871, there were calls for a national holiday, and there were three suggestions. No decision was made. Until 1873, the Sedantag was moved to 18 January or the day of the Frankfurt Treaty (10 May 1871). The Sedantag would soon also be celebrated at the universities and in many German cities. It never occurred to them to think about "Empire Parade" or "Emperor's Birthday". Some Culture Ministers of the states, especially in Prussia, decided that the Sedantag would be an official festival in schools. Upon many suggestions, the date of the Emperor's proclamation on 18 January would be established as day of remembrance. Emperor Wilhelm I declined this: "This was also the day of the first Prussian coronation of the king, which should not fall into the shadow of a united German holiday." Days Of Weimar Republic On 31 July 1919, the Weimar Constitution would be accepted in its form by the Weimar National Congress. In memorial of this "Hour of birth of democracy", the 11 August was created as Constitution Day, because the President of the Empire, Friedrich Ebert, signed the constitution on this day. Days Of National Socialism Shortly after the Nazis took power in 1933 (the so-called Machtergreifung), May Day (1 May) was established as a national holiday in the German Reich . It was already celebrated as a "Day of the Labor Movement" since 1890, and also was part of the tradition for the May dance commemorating the Walpurgis Night. Immediately after the establishment of the holiday in 1933, the Nazis banned trade unions on 2 May 1933 and occupied their buildings as offices for the Nazi Movement. On 1 March 1939, Hitler declared 9 November (the day of the failed Hitler Putsch in 1923) as the "Memorial Day for the movement" as the national holiday. Federal Republic of Germany From 1954 to 1990, 17 June was an official holiday in the Federal Republic of Germany to commemorate the Uprising of 1953 in East Germany, even with the name "Day of the German Unity".Since 1963, it was proclaimed by the President of the Federal Republic as "National Day of Memorial of the German People". Therefore, in the year 1990, the "Day of German Unity" was celebrated twice. German Democratic Republic In East Germany, the Founding Day in 1949 would be celebrated on 7 October as Day of the Republic, until the 40th anniversary in 1989. Decision for GDR's unity with the Federal Republic The motive for setting the date of 3 October as the possible Day of Unity was decided by the Volkskammer (GDR Congress) on the impending economical and political collapse of the GDR. The Helsinki Conference was set for 2 October, at which the foreign ministers would be informed of the results of the Two-plus-Four talks. At the beginning of July, the governments of both German states decided on the schedule: elections in the GDR would be held on 14 October, and a common election for the entire country on 2 December. The decision on the date was finally made on 22 August by the GDR's Minister-President, Lothar de Maizière, at a special session of the Volkskammer, which began at 9 pm. After a heated debate, the President of the Volkskammer, Sabine Bergmann-Pohl, announced the results at 2:30 am on 23 August: "The Volkskammer decides on the accession of the GDR to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Germany according to Article 23 of the Basic Laws effective as of 3 October 1990. In the matter Nr. 201 there have been 363 votes. There were no invalid votes. 294 deputies have voted 'yes.' (Strong applause from CDU/DA, DSU, FDP, partly SPD and the deputies standing up in their seats.) "62 deputies have voted 'no', and 7 people abstained. This is a historic event. Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe that we have not made an easy decision, but today we have acted within our responsibilities of the voting rights of the citizens of the GDR. I thank everybody that this result was made possible by a consensus across party lines." Gregor Gysi, Chairman of the SED-PDS, was visibly moved and made a personal statement: "Madame President! The Parliament has no more and no less decided on the downfall of the German Democratic Republic as of 3 October 1990".(Jubilant cheers from the CDU/DA, DSU and SPD.) Attempt to change the date of national holiday On 3 November 2004, the Federal Chancellor, Gerhard Schröder, suggested that the "Day of the German Unity" be celebrated on a Sunday, for economic reasons. Instead of 3 October, the National Reunification should be celebrated on the first Sunday of October. This suggestion received a lot of criticism from many sides, amongst them from Federal President Horst Köhler as well as the President of the Bundestag, Wolfgang Thierse. The demand worried a part of the population because of discontent for an increased working hours would be seen as a provocation and devaluing the national holiday. In addition, fixing the Unity Day on the first Sunday of October would have meant that it would sometimes fall on 7 October, which happens to have been the national day of East Germany; this date would thus have been seen as commemorating the division of Germany rather than the reunification. The idea was dropped after a short but angry debate. Day of Celebrations At Last Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Joachim Gauck at the Bürgerfest (German Unity Day festivities) in Hannover in 2014 The Day of German Unity is celebrated each year with a ceremonial act and a citizens' festival ( Bürgerfest ). The celebrations are hosted by a major city, usually the state capital, in the German state presiding over the Bundesrat in the respective year (a sequence determined by the Königstein Agreement ). After Bonn in 2011, Frankfurt am Main was the second non-state capital to host the celebrations in 2015; however, both cities bear a significance for German history (Bonn as former capital of West Germany and Frankfurt Parliament of 1848/49). 1990 in Berlin, capital of Germany, reunited that year 1991 in Hamburg 1992 in Schwerin, state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 1993 in Saarbrücken, state capital of Saarland 1994 in Bremen, state capital of Bremen 1995 in Düsseldorf, state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia 1996 in Munich, state capital of Bavaria 1997 in Stuttgart, state capital of Baden-Württemberg 1998 in Hannover, state capital of Lower Saxony 1999 in Wiesbaden, state capital of Hesse 2000 in Dresden, state capital of Saxony 2001 in Mainz, state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate 2002 in Berlin 2003 in Magdeburg, state capital of Saxony-Anhalt 2004 in Erfurt, state capital of Thuringia 2005 in Potsdam, state capital of Brandenburg 2006 in Kiel, state capital of Schleswig-Holstein 2007 in Schwerin, state capital of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern 2008 in Hamburg 2009 in Saarbrücken, state capital of Saarland 2010 in Bremen 2011 in Bonn, former federal capital, instead of the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Düsseldorf (Motto: „Freiheit Einheit Freude – Bewegt mehr“ - "Liberty Unity Joy - Make a bigger difference") 2012 in Munich, state capital of Bavaria 2013 in Stuttgart, state capital of Baden-Württemberg 2014 in Hannover, state capital of Lower Saxony (Motto: „Einheit in Vielfalt“ - "Unity in Diversity") 2015 in Frankfurt, largest city of Hessen (Motto: „Grenzen überwinden“ - "Overcoming borders") 2016 in Dresden, state capital of Saxony (Motto: „Brücken bauen“ - "Building bridges") 2017 planned in Mainz, state capital of Rhineland-Palatinate 2018 planned in Berlin In addition, various celebrations are held in the federal capital Berlin, mainly based on the Straße des 17. Juni and around the Brandenburg Gate. State capitals and also other cities often have additional festivities. Furthermore, the Oktoberfest beer festival in Munich, which traditionally runs until the first Sunday in October, now runs until 3 October, if the Sunday in question falls on the first or second day of October. The celebrations in the host city always includes a festival and fireworks show. This disease is also known as leucoderma and its main features are depigmentation of skin areas, especially in the face, limbs or genital area. See What Engr. Edmund Mezue Has To Say On The Grace Of God In The Law Of Sowing And Reaping (Reciprocal Action)

THE GRACE OF GOD IN THE LAW OF SOWING AND REAPING (RECIPROCAL ACTION) The law of Sowing & Reaping is the only natural law commonly spoken of in every religion but the interpretation differs. The right interpretation can only be derived from observation of the natural procedural process of or the trend of development to ripeness & harvest of the agricultural seeds sown on earth, and then relating it to the swiftness, fineness and consistency of the beyond. Natural laws are expressions of the Will of God and they are immutable, inviolable and non discriminatory The Law of Sowing & Reaping gives everyone exactly what one puts into Creation and in multiples too if cared for well. Spiritual seeds are sown with one's volition(intuitive & thought), words and actions. Spiritual seeds just as seen in agricultural seeds give one exactly what one sowed at harvest time. Likewise the time of harvest depends on the type of seed; some soon, some in a short period, some long time, some very long time and some even beyond one's earth life. Also the harvest is bumper or plentiful if the seeds are cared for or nourished well. No miracle can change this order. Spiritual seed must be reaped by only the one who sowed it unlike the agricultural seeds that can be reaped by another through either stealing, death of the sower, donation by the sower, etc. Also quantity of the spiritual seed reaped at any time depends on how the sower stands at the harvest time; if the seed is bad and the sower reasonably changes to good at harvest time he reaps less bad. This is called symbolic redemption. The reaping of agricultural seeds does not depend on how one stands. The lighter or purer or more chaste a human being is, the faster his spiritual seeds ripe for him to reap or the shorter the time of harvesting his seeds becomes. This enables him reap off his bad seeds fast enough for his ascent. This is often wrongly understood by many that God chastises His own or those He loves. With the above knowledge of the impeccable operation of this law, one can now see that the grace of God in it lies in the love, justice, perfection, forgiveness, mercy, vengeance/recompense and providence which the law bears. ASK YOURSELF is it not love for one to harvest/reap what one sowed in multiples, i.e. plenty, abundance? Is it not justice for one to reap exactly what one sowed e.g. good for good, bad for bad, maize for maize? Is it not perfection for one not to reap any other thing apart from what one sowed no matter how much one prays for change? Is it not forgiveness when once one reaps what one sowed it will no longer be recorded or remembered for one i.e. it will be completely effaced for one? Is it not mercy when one is presented a harvest of what one sowed in accordance with how one stands at the time of harvesting? Is reaping evil sown by one not revenge, not retaliation, not retribution, not reprisal, not recompense, not corrective or reaping good sown by one not reward, not compensation, not pay back, not restitution? Is it not careful guidance, manifestation of care(prudence care) when what one sowed determines one's future or prepares one's future? When it makes one conscious of the effect in future? When it urges one to live in the present consciously & rightly? The Ten Commandment of God mediated through Moses swings in the Law of Sowing & Reaping. The commandment admonishes one on every of one's faults, weaknesses and guilts so as to enable one to always sow good seeds May the Grace of God inherent in this law urge each one of us to strive more to live In His Will. This explanation is based on my understanding of the work ''In the Light of Truth, The Grail Message'' by Abd-ru-shin. You may wish to examine it for clearer perception. …

Signs People See In You To Be A Great Leader

In the movies, amazing leaders can frequently be seen making life-changing speeches — sometimes whilst riding a horse back and forth before a mass of armored, sword-wielding soldiers. In real life, leadership is a much quieter trait. In fact, you may not always even realize that others see you as a great leader. Here are some signs that people view you as a leader in the office: 1. Everyone seeks out your opinion This is probably the most obvious sign that your peers view you as a leader. Whether or not you're the boss, you're a fixture in the office when it comes to giving insight and opinions. If this sounds like you, then your coworkers clearly value your wisdom. 2. You're a good communicator People won't think you're a great leader just because you've got good ideas. You've got to be able to communicate those ideas too. "There has to be a sense that the person themselves believes in the project or idea," leadership expert Hugh Kearns said in an interview with Science magazine. "If they are wishy-washy or not very committed to the idea themselves, then it will be very hard to bring other people along. The other people will have the concern that the project will collapse at the first obstacle or setback." 3. Your boss ignores you sometimes "Sometimes, bosses want to see how proactive and self-starting their future leaders are. Those who need less care and feeding may have the edge over those who need constant reinforcement and direction to be productive," Jim Morris writes for the Daily Muse. Having your supervisor "neglect" you sometimes might not be the best feeling in the world, but it's probably a pretty good sign. 4. You never scramble to take the lead In an article for Inc, Les McKeown wrote that there's a difference between take-charge-type posers and real leaders: "Always opinionated, usually impatient and frequently brusque, these gotta-be-in-fronters get so used to other people describing them as natural born leaders that sooner or later — to their own and everyone else's detriment —they begin to believe it." Real leaders only take the helm when it's necessary. This trait goes back to one of the heroes of ancient Rome. A general named Lucius Quinctius Cincinnatus was called to serve the state as dictator during an invasion (in those days, "dictators" were appointed during military emergencies and held full authority for six months). He was so competent that he routed the invasion in a matter of weeks. Afterwards, instead of taking advantage of his term, he resigned, went back to his small farm, and became a legend in his own lifetime. People generally prefer selfless leaders like Cincinnatus over ambitious, grasping ones like Caesar. 5. You help people grow Whenever someone messes up, you're the first one on the scene helping them to fix things. Coworkers seek you out for help and your boss frequently asks you to mentor others. "If people are coming to you, they either figured out you excel at something, or they were sent to you as a knowledgeable resource. Either way, it's a good sign," Morris says in an article for the Daily Muse. 6. You're firm, but not close-minded Moderation is key. You don't want to come across as a pushover, of course. No one is going to view a weak-willed person as a potential leader. That being said, the best leaders aren't lone wolves. They take their team members' suggestions and concerns into consideration before acting. If you stand up for your own ideas, but fairly weigh every option before proceeding, then odds are your coworkers consider you an effective leader. 7. People come to you for advice If people are actually soliciting your insight at work, that's a clear sign they respect your judgment. They're looking to you for guidance. Think about it this way. Who do you turn to when you need advice? Some random colleague whose work you don't respect? Or someone you aspire to become more like? 8. You always do your homework A good leader doesn't have to give amazing speeches or even have a ton of charisma. People will perceive you as as promising leader if you have insightful solutions and prepare well for workplace projects. Instead of trying to wow others with fake charisma, focus on being the best you can be at your job. "I think most people have unrealistic ideas about leadership," Kearns said an interview with Science magazine. "They tend to think they have to be Nelson Mandela or some such inspirational character. In reality leadership is much more mundane: for example, preparing for your meeting, communicating with people, and listening." 9. You're confident, but not arrogant Arrogant people believe themselves to be excellent leaders and workers — without having much evidence to back up that hypothesis. They just feel like they should be in charge. No one wants to take orders from an arrogant leader. Confident people know their strengths and work on their weaknesses. They trust in their own competence and work hard. People are usually happy to follow confident, competent individuals.…

Delta State Again As Fear Returns In Gbaramatu Kingdom Over Oil Spillage Caused By NNPC (Must Read)

A fresh oil spill has occurred in 12 communities of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri, South-West Council Area of Delta State. The development has worsened the already devastated environment and caused panic among residents. The oil spill, which occurred on Thursday night, was as a result of a ruptured trunk line reportedly belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. How A Boxer Died After A Head Triggered Blow That Caused His Brain To Swell And Bleed See Photo

Scottish prizefighter Mike Towell has died from injuries sustained in the ring, his manager says. The 25-year-old boxer was carried out by stretcher after going five rounds with Welsh fighter Dale Evans in Glasgow. The Scottish boxer died early Saturday after suffering severe bleeding and swelling to his brain during a televised Friday night fight at a Glasgow hotel. His St Andrews Sporting Club tweeted the tragic news early Saturday. Towell was knocked down twice in the fight before referee Victor Loughlin stopped the bout in the fifth round. He had been undefeated prior to the fight, a British welterweight title eliminator, with 11 wins and one draw on his professional record. His opponent has yet to comment on Towell’s death but described the figher as a “true warrior” in a statement issued after he was taken to the hospital. “The ingredients were there for an entertaining fight and it was that, we are both punchers and so sadly for Mike he came out the wrong side,” Evans said. “I never wanted to see my opponent being stretchered out of the ring. Who would ever want that sight? That was so hard for his family and my heart goes out to them.” Towell’s partner Chloe Ross – and mother of his child – suggested that Towell may have been suffering from a previously undiagnosed injury. “Michael had severe bleeding and swelling to his brain. He had been complaining of headaches for the last few weeks but we put it down to migraines with the stress of his fight,” she wrote on Facebook. “It has been the longest 24 hours of our lives. My baby has lost his daddy. But he will be so, so proud of his dad in what he achieved.” Loughlin, the fight’s referee, had also been in charge of the British middleweight title fight in March between Chris Eubank Jnr. and Nick Blackwell, which ended Blackwell’s career after he suffered cranial bleeding before the fight was stopped at 10 rounds. …

He talked about how he cut cost during his tenure by visiting Abuja alone when the need arises. He also advised governors to scrap the Office of the First Lady which he said gulps N2bn monthly. He said, “It costs an average of N2 billion to run the office of the First Lady in every state in Nigeria. Multiply by 36. “Nigeria can still function on its income if only we learn how to cut cost. “We need to cut the cost of governance. Catholic Priests, Sisters Protest Violent Activities Of Herdsmen In Enugu Held In July, 2016. Its For Your Update (See Photo)

The Catholic Church in Enugu State on Saturday held mass rallies protesting violent activities of herdsmen in the state. The three Catholic dioceses in the state, Nsukka, Awgu and Enugu, staged separate rallies and  expressed their anger at the menace posed by herdsmen. Priests and lay members of the Catholic Church turned out in their thousands for the peaceful rallies in Nsukka and Awgu dioceses. However, the Enugu Catholic diocese shelved its plan to march to the Government House, where they intended to deliver a petition to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. The Diocese had earlier announced that it would march from the Holy Ghost Cathedral, through the streets of Enugu metropolis, to the Government House on Saturday. The march was tagged “Diocesan peaceful prayerful protest march.” But the planned march failed to hold after Ugwuanyi and some members of the state executive council visited the church. Our correspondent learnt that the church leadership called off the march after they were informed of an alleged plan by miscreants to hijack the event. The miscreants allegedly including pro-Biafra activists, planned to use the protest march to cause a breakdown of law and order. Addressing the Catholic faithfuls at the cathedral during the visit, Ugwuanyi said his administration was determined to protect lives and property in the state. He said, “On the issues you have raised in this rally, I wish to state that I address you today not only as a Catholic but as your governor and the Chief Security Officer of Enugu State.  While taking my oath of office, I swore to do everything within my powers to preserve the security of lives and property of the people of Enugu State. “You can therefore be assured that I will not fail in this responsibility and be further assured that whatever message you convey through me to the appropriate authorities at Abuja, will be promptly delivered.” The church also made known its opposition to the proposed grazing bill in a joint press statement read by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callistus Onaga, and the bishops of Awgu and Nsukka dioceses. “The free grazing of cattle in our area has now become a threat not only to the growing of crops, which is the mainstay of our sedentary people, but also to our lives. The nomadic lifestyle makes policing and the pursuit of criminals much more complex and hazardous, while providing terrorists like Boko Haram operatives with ready cover for penetrating every nook and cranny of our country,” the statement said.…

Fulani Herdsmen Again, Strikes Priest From Anambra Community – What They Did To Three Catholic Priests Will Make You Cry For Days

The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi, yesterday alleged that suspected Fulani herdsmen armed with dangerous weapons including guns, attacked and kidnapped the Rector of Tansi Major Seminary, Rev. Fr. Dr. Emmanuel Dim, while two other priests Rev. Frs. Jude Chukwuneke and Jude Ezeokana who were in the same vehicle with him escaped with various degrees of gun shot wounds. Addressing reporters at the Nnewi Catholic Diocese Media House, located in Assumption Cathedral Nnewi, Director of Communication of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Hyginus Aghaulor, alleged that the herdsmen called, and demanded for a ransom of N2.5 million. He said: “Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has decided and directed that ransom should not be paid for the kidnap of any of its priests and anybody that is demanding for ransom for the release of any priest kidnapped is wasting time. “If anybody or group goes ahead to pay ransom for the release of any priest, the person or the group is on his own.” In a statement issued after addressing reporters, titled “Fulani herdsmen kidnap Rector of Tansi Major Seminary, Onitsha, demands for ransom,” the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi said the incident happened on the September 26, 2016, around 7pm along Nkpologwu/Nimbo Road Enugu State. According to the statement, “the three Catholic priests were returning from Nsukka to Onitsha and Nnewi, after a condolence visit to Rev. Fr. Uchenna Ezeh of Nsukka Diocese who lost his mother, before they were attacked and while Rev. Fr. Dim is still being held by the herdsmen- kidnappers who are demanding a ransom of N2.5 million, Rev. Fr. Ezeokana, who lectures in both Fr. Tansi Major Seminary Onitsha and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, received treatment briefly at a hospital in Nsukka, but is now recuperating at Awka his home Diocese. “Rev. Fr. Chukwuemeka, who is the Chaplin of St Camillus de Lellis Chaplaincy, College of Health Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Nnewi ,who was shot on the head has been transferred from Memphis Specialist Hospital Enugu to Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, where he is currently receiving treatment.” “On a separate place the same Monday 26th September, 2016, a Vincentian priest whose name is yet to be confirmed was also kidnapped with his brother along Abuja Lokoja express way, another Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Ugwu was kidnapped on August 9,2014 along Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi and few weeks back a senior seminarian was killed in cold blooded in Attakwu, Enugu State, and one begins to wonder if Catholic priest have become endangered species”. The visibly angry Rev. Fr. Aghaulor lashed out on South East Governors for doing nothing to protect people they are governing, “while their counterparts in the North are influencing the Federal Government in spending billions of naira to contain the Boko Haram insurgents, when something more worrisome and sinister than the activities of Boko Haram is being done in the South East by the Fulani Herdsmen”. “The South East Governors and their Chairman have done nothing to protect the people of South East, the Enugu State Governor whose state is where the menacing activities of the of the herdsmen is worst and the state legislators have not done anything to protect the people there, they should borrow a leaf from Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State. “We are in Federalism, and each state have right to make certain law governing them, what prevents Enugu State Government from making laws that can protect the people there, Governors of South East and their State Assembly’s should make laws that will protect their people”. Rev. Fr. Aghaulor lamented that since the existence of Nigeria, nobody has seen the level of killing spree that is being perpetrated by the Fulani herdsmen, adding that “while innocent people are left unprotected, we have seen barrage of military wares and personnel protecting the pipelines in Niger Delta, as if oil is more important than people’s life. Why should people be killed without provocation in their own traditional lands? “We are asking the government for how long would this continue, is this the type of country we all signed up for, is this part of the change, is there no rules and laws in this country , all over Nigeria women are being raped, people are intimidated, innocent Nigerians are being slaughtered and property worth billions of Naira destroyed by the suspected Fulani Herdsmen”.…

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele Thanks Buhari, Security Agencies Over Wife’s Release

Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, has expressed gratitude to God, President Muhammadu Buhari and security agencies for the rescue of his wife, Margaret, from the hands of kidnappers. He was however silent on whether any ransom was paid to secure her release. Mrs Emefiele was kidnapped last Thursday by kidnappers along Agbor-Benin road and taken to unknown destination. The Central Bank Governor, in a statement released in Abuja on Saturday morning, said his joy knew no bounds when the news of his wife’s rescue reached him Friday night. He praised security agencies for their gallantry in bringing his wife back home within 24 hours in compliance with the directive of President Buhari. He also expressed his gratitude to the Delta and Edo State Governments, friends and well wishers who, through their actions, prayers and goodwill, helped to bring this harrowing experience to a joyful end. He reaffirmed his resolve to continue to serve the nation diligently and with all his heart without any fear of intimidation.
